The Bucyrus Campus in South Milwaukee, WI, is a landmark of industrial innovation and a testament to the city’s rich manufacturing heritage. Originally established as the headquarters and production facility for Bucyrus-Erie, a world-renowned manufacturer of heavy excavation equipment, the campus played a pivotal role in shaping the global mining and construction industries. Bucyrus-Erie, later known as Bucyrus International, was founded in 1880 and became synonymous with cutting-edge engineering and the production of iconic machines like draglines and shovels, used in monumental projects worldwide. The historic campus, with its impressive architecture and sprawling grounds, remains a symbol of South Milwaukee’s industrial legacy, now repurposed for creative and community-driven initiatives that honor its storied past.
Present & Future
The current facilities included over 200,000 sq ft of vacant office space aligned to over 500.000 sq ft of repurposed industrial usage. For a building that has been mostly vacant for over 30 years, the structure of the building was vastly intact.
The site was acquired in September 2024 for $3M with construction starting in April 2025. The $50M development includes multiple housing types that cater to inter generational living environment. The entire development feature 134 residential apartments from studio units to 3-bedroom townhomes. Also, the property features a 30,000 square foot school and a 22,000 square foot elderly experiential center.
